BANK HOLIDAY TOURNAMENTS AND OTHER TENNIS NEWS

Dear Tennis Players

Congratulations to Kate Hudspeth and Bobby Raymond – winners of our handicap tennis tournament on Easter Monday. And thanks to all 19 of you who took part and made the event a success.

It’s not long to wait till our next Bank Holiday tournament – just under 2 weeks in fact!

MONDAY 5 MAY will see the beginning of the national 80th anniversary of V. E. Day commemorations. Here at Ebbisham we are holding a V. E. themed event – a handicap tournament in the morning (starting at 10am), followed by a 1945-style picnic.

In 1945, entry to a similar tournament would have been about 6d (2½ pence). But we are not even going to charge you that much. Instead we ask you to bring a donation of non-perishable food items or toiletries for the club charity – the Epsom & Ewel Food Bank.

We hope to see a good crowd of you on court. You will have the chance to play with authentic 1945-style rackets. If you want to dress the part – feel free, otherwise a touch of red, white or blue would cut the mustard.

MONDAY 26 MAY – yet another Bank Holiday. There will be a tournament at 10am followed by a BBQ

FRIDAY 6 JUNE – Extra date for your diaries Following the success Ebbisham Misfits team at the recent 24 hour charity tennis marathon, we will be visited by Danny Sapsford and James Auckland (ex-Davis Cup tennis players) who will be holding 2 x hour-long masterclasses (at 7pm and 8pm). Information on how you can be amongst the lucky people to benefit from their pearls of wisdom will be made known to you shortly. If you are interested, put the date in your diaries now.

And don’t forget the AGM on Sunday 18 May – more details shortly.
