Firstly, we would like to thank all those members who took the time to complete the survey on the new hall lighting that was installed a year ago.
Despite only half the membership responding (from the 180 emails sent out), it still represents feedback from a significant number of members. 64 members registered either a 4 or 5 (‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’) while just 12 members registered a 2 or 1 (‘dissatisfied’ or ‘very dissatisfied’).
Although the average overall satisfaction with the lighting is high (at 4 out of 5), there were varying degrees of comment relating to the brightness/intensity of the lighting in certain situations during play from a third of those who completed the survey.
We have therefore concluded that we should look at making some changes to tackle the intensity of at least some of the lights to create the best playing experience for all (including those with disabilities that cause them to have a heightened sensitivity to bright lights), while trying to keep as close as possible to Badminton England’s guidelines. With this in mind we have contacted our original lighting contractor with a view to initially trialing a reduction of 20% in the overall current lighting levels - something that we are looking to get in place at the earliest opportunity.
We will then seek further feedback from members about the lighting levels, including whether other changes might improve things further.
We will be in contact again once the date for adjusting the lighting has been agreed with our contractor.
