EXCITING NEW ADDITION TO 2026 TENNIS SCHEDULE

Dear Tennis Members

SATURDAY 11 APRIL - 12-HOUR TENNIS MARATHON WITH LUKA

That day, one of our younger members - Luka Jojic - will be taking up residence on court 1 from 8am to 8pm, playing continuously for 12 hours against a succession of other club members. Luka is aiming to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for charity in the summer and wants to raise as much as he can for his chosen charity ‘Dig Deep’, an organization which provides clean drinking water to villages in Kenya. Each hour (one hour for every 500m of the peak altitude) will act as a slot allowing for new players to swap in and out and hit with him throughout the event.

But there is much more to this event - The four key elements are:

1. The Tennis Marathon itself. While some of the slots will be highly competitive, some will be more social and it is hoped that players from our normal Saturday club session (running alongside on 2 courts from 2 to 5pm) will rotate in and out, and some will be simply fun challenges, eg playing in retro-style clothing with wooden rackets or even using frying pans!

2. BBQ for participants and club guests. Tasty burgers and sausages from our usual supplier – Porky Whites – will be available at lunch time and later in the day.

3. Charity raffle. Luka has sourced a range of super prizes from local companies.

4. ‘Closest to’ guessing game. Estimate the number of strokes/steps Luka will take over the course of the 12 hours and win yourself a share of the ‘pot’.

So, who is this Luka? You may not have come across him on court, but many will remember his valiant efforts against men’s singles champion Callum in last year’s final and of course he was triumphant in the men’s doubles.

We hope you will all want to support Luka in this venture and have some fun into the bargain. Exact details of how you can get involved on and off court will be shared later.

And a reminder of some other events coming up soon

tuesday 10 march – international women’s day

Between 10am and noon all 9 of the club’s courts will be open to the women of Ebbisham and to members of the public to take part in a range of racket sports – try something new, rekindle an old love, introduce someone to your own favourite. And enjoy a cuppa, some cake and a chat.

Saturday 14 march – han tournament followed by Chinese meal and quiz

The fun doubles tournament will take part during club session. The self-regulating handicap system ensures games are quick and pairs are evenly matched, with players rotating through partners and carrying their own score to the end. No entry fee - and there are still prizes!

The Chinese meal – sourced from Mei House – will start at 7pm and the quiz around 8pm. Cost £15 per head for meal & quiz (£2-50 for quiz only).

Kind regards

The Tennis Committee
