Dear tennis members
It’s just over a week till an important date in our tennis calendar – Saturday 26 July will see the 5th running of the Alan Baggett Trophy , when we remember our friend Alan.
Play will start at 1.30pm, which means there will be no club session that afternoon. So if you want to play some tennis, please sign up for the competition (contact Jason or Lesley via WhatsApp or email lesley.coles1@btinternet.com). This is a mixed doubles event – partners will be drawn at random and will play a series of round robin games, beading to semi-finals and a final. There is a splendid trophy up for grabs. Entry fee is £5 per person – in cash please.
In conjunction with the tournament, we are holding a grand raffle in aid of the Marie Curie cancer charity . Prizes include a splendid racket bag donated by Head, a golf umbrella, a free tennis lesson with Callum, a family pass to the New Scientist Live event at the end of October, a variety of bottles including scotch, prosecco and wine, etc – the list is growing and more donations are welcome. Raffle tickets (£1 per strip) can be purchased from the office or bar and from members of the tennis committee at club sessions. Please be generous and support this raffle, even if you can’t make it on 26 July. All you need is plenty of cash – so a visit to the ATM is probably in order.
During the afternoon there will be a bbq and cake sale – all proceeds will also be donated to the charity, so even if you are not playing do come along. There will be lots to enjoy – great tennis, great food, the chance to win one of our great prizes!
We know that some of you will be on holiday and can’t make it. Have a lovely time away and see you back on court soon – don’t forget your raffle tickets before you go.
