Biennial Grading process

Dear Member,

It is time for biennial grading process. The overall objective is to ensure that the standard for each graded section is maintained and, where possible, improved, in accordance with the grading criteria for each section. The aim is not only to try to improve the standard of all sections, but also to ensure that the difference between the top and bottom of each section is not too large.

The grading review will cover an assessment of a session member from the point of view of whether they still meet the standards for the section they are currently playing in, fall short of it (i.e. match a lower section standard) or exceed it (i.e. meet a higher section standard). This year we are asking players who want to be considered for upgrade as well as voluntary downgrade to inform us prior to the regrade.

The grading standards remain unchanged and can be found in the Wiltshire room or online via this link/attached to this email.

Dates
The grading assessments will be carried out over the five week period starting from the 17th of June and will take place on the section nights during this period as noted below. Notification of all assessments will be made (by email) by the end of July.

A section
Wednesday 17th June, Wednesday 24th June, Wednesday 1st July

B section
Thursday 25th June, Thursday 2nd July, Thursday 9th July

C section
Tuesday 23rd June, Tuesday 30th June, Tuesday 7th July,

D section

Monday 29th June, Monday 6th July, Monday 13th July

Upgrade Request

If you would like to be assessed for upgrade please let a section rep know or email the committee: ebbisham-badminton-committee@googlegroups.com

Voluntary Downgrading

Members are welcome, as they always are, to downgrade voluntarily, by either talking to a section rep emailing the committee:

ebbisham-badminton-committee@googlegroups.com

Grading Process

An independent coach will attend each of the above club nights to make an assessment of the playing standard of each member and the section as a whole. It should be noted by all members that grading standards include an assessment based on both level and mixed doubles.
Following the last assessment date, the coach will feed back to the badminton committee their recommendations based on what they have observed.
Members recommended for upgrading will be invited to play in the new above section to get additional insight that they meet the standard.
The committee will, from this feedback, make a decision on the outcome of the gradings. Where relevant, committee members will not be able to comment on their own grading.
Any members regraded will then be notified of the decision by e-mail through the office.
Any regraded members will have the opportunity of requesting a meeting with the committee (or subset) regarding the decision, should they want to.
After notice has been given of any change in grading, it will take effect from 1st September, although the member may opt to change sessions immediately.

Non-Attendance

Should members be unable to attend all or any of the selected dates due to holiday, injury, or for any other reason, they are advised to speak with the committee (or section rep) to inform them, a decision will be made on a case by case basis. If no notice is given and you do not attend any grading sessions the committee’s decision will be based on various criteria, including match performance (if relevant).

FAQ & Feedback

Anyone moving up or down a section is encouraged to get in touch with the section reps if they are interested in committing to playing matches to find out what teams their new section has available.

The committee welcomes feedback, questions, and suggestions, and can be contacted either by speaking with your reps, or by emailing the committee at: ebbisham-badminton-committee@googlegroups.com

Note: please do NOT email the office as they are not involved in the grading process.

If you wish to discuss any aspect of the grading process with the committee, please contact them and a date and time will be arranged for an in person chat.

Kind regards,

The Badminton Committee
