An Update from the Chair – Squash & Racketball

Dear [[firstname]]

I’m writing to you as the new Chair of the Squash & Racketball section.

Before looking ahead, I’d like to sincerely thank the Squash & Racketball Committee for their continued support and commitment. In particular, I want to thank Rajeeva , our outgoing Chair, for his time and dedication to the section. I’d also like to acknowledge Alex Coonan for his many years of service as Men’s Captain , and Paul Carrell for his contribution to the committee and for spearheading our Double Dot newsletter.

The Squash and Racketball section only works because members are willing to get involved and give their time , and that effort is genuinely appreciated.

Looking ahead , the committee’s main focus is to grow participation and membership in both Squash and Racketball. We have great courts, a great club, and a fantastic mix of members — but to stay healthy and continue to thrive, we need more people playing more often . That means encouraging members to participate more, making it easier for new players to get started, and offering activities that suit all standards and levels of experience . A strong section is built on regular play, shared enthusiasm, and people feeling welcome and wanting to get involved.

Leagues
I’d really encourage more members to take part in the club leagues for both Squash and Racketball. The leagues provide regular, friendly competition across a range of standards and are a great way to meet other members, have competitive games and stay active on court.

Club Championships
I’d also want to encourage all members to enter the Club Championships for both Squash and Racketball. Participation has declined in recent years, and I’d like to see that reversed. These competitions are open to all standards and are one of the best ways to get involved in the section and the wider club.

Events and coaching opportunities
Over the coming months, we’ll be introducing new events and coaching opportunities aimed at helping more members get involved, build confidence, and enjoy their squash or racketball — whether you’re new to the sport or looking to improve .

Getting involved
This is your section . If you have ideas, feedback, or would like to help out in any way, I’d genuinely love to hear from you. We aim to build a section that is active, growing, friendly, and inclusive — while continuing to support those who want to play competitively and develop their game.

I’m really looking forward to seeing many more of you on court.

All the best
Damian Smith
