REMINDER OF IMPORTANT DATES COMING UP IN THE TENNIS CALENDAR
These dates should already be in your diaries, but if not, here’s a reminder:
•TENNIS AGM - SUNDAY 18 MAY – 12 NOON – in the bar lounge
We hope that you will make the effort to attend this year and we look forward to seeing a full house. This is your chance to catch up on what is happening in the tennis section and have your say on all things tennis-related at Ebbisham.
Item 5 on the agenda is Election of committee. The present committee are willing to serve for a further year - They have all given of their time for several years and would welcome some fresh faces. Please give it some thought and step forward if you are willing to join us.
We will conclude the meeting in the time-honoured fashion with light refreshments – including cheese from our very own cheesemonger Jon.
•BANK HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT – MONDAY 26 MAY - 10 AM followed by BBQ – 1PM
The tournament will follow our popular self-regulating handicap scheme. Players go on court with a variety of partners for a series of levels and mixed doubles, carrying their own score with them to the end of the contest, when the leading man and woman will be presented with super (?) prizes.
On offer at the bbq this time will be porky white’s sausages, burgers, Terry’s special chicken and a selection of salads, plus desserts.
Both the tournament and bbq are open to Ebbisham members and guests – Tournament entry is £2.50 and the bbq is £7.50 – in cash please on the day.
If you want to be included please sign up on the tennis notice board or complete the poll on WhatsApp. Help would be appreciated if you are able.
•BRIGHT IDEAS FOR TENNIS MASTERCLASSES – FRIDAY 6 JUNE – 7PM & 8PM
You may recall that on 22 February a small group of hardy tennis players from Ebbisham took part in a 24-hour sponsored tennis marathon in aid of the Bright Ideas for Tennis I Play 30 disability tennis programme. They asked for your support and boy did you all step up! In all, the team raised over £10k, outdoing teams from far larger clubs.
As a reward for being the club raising the most money, Ex-pros Danny Sapsford and James Aukland from Bright Ideas for Tennis will be at Ebbisham running 2 x 1-hour coaching sessions for members. There will be no charge for the sessions and we are sure they will be over-subscribed. If you are interested, make a note of the date – details of how to sign up will be revealed at the tennis AGM.
