BUSY CLUB SESSIONS

Dear Tennis Members

We have recently had a large number of people attending club sessions which is great. Some people have mentioned long waiting times. The committee has considered the comments and suggestions received and have this response

If anyone has any comments/suggestions please send them directly to Gill rather than to the main WhatsApp group

Thanks

Busy Club Sessions

We know that we have congestion during the club sessions on Wednesday evenings and at weekends, especially at the beginning of these sessions and if the sun is shining. And we know that people find this frustrating if they have to wait to get on court.

We want to maintain the relaxed nature of these sessions so that anyone can turn up to any of them at any time during the session so want to avoid a booking system or limiting the sessions that you can attend.

The number of hours we have for club sessions, (13 hours including the team training session on Tuesdays), is generous compared to other clubs and, if we increase them, it will impact on when courts can be booked. The reduction of coaching hours was suggested but one of the clubs aims is to encourage juniors to learn and play as much as possible. We do not want to impact this.

Moving forward, we are planning to cap the number of peak adult members to 100 and start a waiting list if we reach that point. We currently have 92 peak adult members of which ~65 play regularly.

To reduce the waiting times, we introduced the sets to be the first to 4 games and, if 12 or more people are waiting, four games with a golden point if it is 2-2. If people would prefer to play a championship tie break instead of 4 games that is acceptable as long as it is the first to 10 points and includes sudden death deuce. Additionally, please can you keep warming up to a minimum (~5 mins) by doing your stretching, etc while you are waiting to start.

With efficient use of the peg board (please select the next groups to play while you’re waiting), this should ensure a quick turnaround and that everyone gets their fair share of games.

So, in summary, we will cap the adult peak membership, the club sessions will stay as they are, and we will continue to monitor it. And we ask you to make sure everyone gets a fair chance to play.

If anyone has any more suggestions/comments, please can you send them to Gill directly rather than on the main WhatsApp group

Thanks for your support
