SQUASH & RACKETBALL CLUB SESSIONS IMPORTANT CHANGES

SQUASH & RACKETBALL
CLUB SESSIONS IMPORTANT CHANGES – THREE COURTS AND £1 PER PLAY

Dear [[firstname]],

From this week, we will be making two important changes to the Squash and Squash & Racketball club sessions, which were both discussed at the Squash AGM.

  • The Squash club session on Tuesday evening from 7.00pm and the Squash & Racketball club session on Friday evening from 5.15pm will now both be extended to THREE courts.
  • We will now run all three club sessions for a fee of £1 per person, payable at the bar.
  • The small fee is expected to cover any lost revenue from the third court. However, we ALSO expect having three courts available at these sessions will mean shorter waiting times between games and allow much more squash to be played.
  • A fee of £2.50 remains for Silver, Junior or Off-Peak members.

Further details regarding each club session are covered in the text below, including some additional guidance around how we expect the club sessions to run.

You're welcome to join our Ebbisham Squash WhatsApp group where reminders about the various club sessions will be posted. To join the group, please click on the link here - https://chat.whatsapp.com/C3gB1myI7sjGRcALnGAgOr

Best wishes,

CLUB NIGHT SESSION DETAILS

How much will the club sessions cost?

  • The club sessions will be £1 for full members (including Adult and Young Adult).
  • A fee of £2.50 is payable per session for Off-Peak, Silver, Junior members and guests (plus guest fee as per Ebbisham's guest booking policy).

Will the sessions be for squash or racketball?

  • Friday and Saturday Club Night sessions will cater to both Squash & Racketball players. Players who wish to try squash/racketball but don't own the appropriate racket can hire equipment from the office/bar for £1 (per racket - cash only).
  • Tuesday Club Night will focus on Squash only.

I’ve never been to a Club session - What is it?

  • Club sessions are for probably exactly what you are looking for! They are the best way to play a variety of other players across a range of standards. They are open to members of all abilities including ladies, men and juniors.
  • Members meet on the court balcony and wait for a court to become available. Whoever has been waiting the longest selects who they want to play, and those two players take to the court to play one or two games depending on numbers. Once the game is over the players return to the balcony to watch the other games and await their next opponent.
  • The session usually lasts for two-hours or so but players can leave when they’ve had their fill of squash or racketball.
  • After the session, the bar will be open to analyse your performances or just to have a drink or two with the other players.

What’s the protocol for who plays next?

  • Members meet on the court balcony and wait for a court to become available.
  • Once a court becomes available, the player that has been waiting the longest on the balcony is able to choose their opponent. This is generally restricted to the three members who have been waiting the next-longest, but exceptions are allowed if the chooser has already played those three, or (in the Friday or Saturday club session) the chooser wants to play racketball and the next three all want to play squash (or vice versa)
  • When the numbers make it necessary, we will use the “Peg system”, which makes use of the wooden “Peg Board” to track who has been waiting the longest. In particularly busy times, it is common for an agreement for only one game to 15 to be played, rather than the usual two games to 11.
