HAPPY NEW YEAR

Dear tennis members.

It’s a new year and time again for those darn resolutions. One resolution you won’t want to break is PLAY MORE TENNIS .

How best to do this? First make sure your diaries are up to date. In addition to our thrice (not a word used a lot) weekly club sessions , we have numerous tournaments and other events planned for 2025. All the dates are on the attached schedule.

We were delighted to see so many (14 men & 11 ladies) at our TINSEL TENNIS tie-break 10 tournament just before Christmas, despite the inclement weather. Thanks to our lovely new lights , play was possible on all three courts - dodging the showers running in and out of the clubhouse became an art form, but we managed to get the tournament done. Everyone really entered into the spirit and came dressed as elves, Santas and so on. By popular vote the prizes for the most inspired outfits went to husband and wife team Sheila and Steve. The tournament winners were Rachel and Simon – another good partnership. And thanks to your generous donations, 4 large carrier bags of groceries and toiletries were delivered to the Epsom & Ewell Food Bank in time for Christmas.

Turning our thoughts to this year, our first event - the HAN SPRING CUP – will be on Saturday 1 February during club session. See attached poster.

This mix-in (ie you play with a variety of partners and carry your score to the end) handicap tournament is held each year to coincide with the Chinese New Year . As usual, the tournament will be followed by a Chinese buffet & quiz .

The tournament is free to enter and the cost of the meal will be kept the same as last year (£13.50 per head). More details will follow, together with a poll on WhatsApp for you to sign up for the meal, but make a note of the date now.

ALAN BAGGETT BOX LEAGUES – The current leagues were due to be completed by 31 December. You will not be surprized to learn that due to various factors, not least the weather, not many matches have been played. Though a big shout-out goes to young Olly who has played all his matches and now sits at the top of league 1! Gill has agreed to extend the deadline, so come on everyone – get at least some of your games played.

We wish you all a tennis-filled, injury-free 2025. See you on court.

With kind regards from the Tennis Committee
