Dates for your diaries and other important tennis-related information

Dear [[firstname]],

Here are some dates for your diaries, plus some other important information from the tennis committee.

Spooky Wednesday – 30 October . Yes, it’s a day early, but our Wednesday tennis club session that day will be taken over by witches, vampires, ghouls. Look out your Halloween accessories and come and join the fun – prize for best Halloween themed costume. Baked potatoes (with beans / tuna / grated cheese) plus dessert will be available from 8pm, all for a small cash donation of £3 per head. Nearer the time a poll will be set up on the tennis WhatsApp group to get an idea of how many of you will want to eat.

Floodlight upgrade – 6 November . All three courts will be closed all day. Thanks to Anil’s hard work in getting planning permission and obtaining a sizeable grant towards the cost of installation, our long-awaited upgrade to LED lights on courts 2 and 3 is nigh. In addition to improved lighting on these courts, this will have the added bonus of making court 1 playable (though not quite up to match standard) throughout the year. It has been agreed with Management that the cost of lights will now be covered by our tennis membership fees, so no more purchasing of tokens – just flick the switch and there will be light.

Water bath – We are glad to see that most of you are making use of the water bath outside court 1 to remove clay from your shoes. However, as the plastic is not very robust and is liable to crack under too much weight, can you refrain from standing with both feet in the bath – please stand outside the bath and wash one shoe at a time.

Tennis matches – You will probably know that Ebbisham runs a number of teams, of varying standards, who compete against other clubs in Surrey. This winter we have 4 men’s teams, 2 ladies’ teams, plus 1 mixed team. Team squads are now being finalised. If you are new to the club, enjoy competition and feel you would like to be included, please speak with one of our captains*, who are always eager to strengthen their squads.

* Team captains: Men’s 1 – Leo Morrell, Men’s 2 – Rob Crouch, Men’s 3 - Jon Tasch, Men’s 4 – David Joyce, Ladies 1 – Bridget Jones, Ladies 2 – Gill Futcher, Mixed – Rachel Allen.

Message to team players - We would just like to remind you that the league lays down a number of rules for those playing in teams:

  • All team players must be LTA Advantage Members, with Ebbisham nominated as their playing venue. It is free to join and there are other benefits such as access to Wimbledon tickets.
  • A player may play-up once in a higher team than they usually play in, but do it twice and they will be locked out of their normal team for the rest of the season.
  • A player may in no circumstances play under the name of another person. New software will enable the league organisers to crack down heavily on offenders this winter. Breaches of the rules will lead to voiding of results for the player and/or team, so please don’t do it!
  • And remember, a match fee of £2.50 per player is payable for all home matches to cover the cost of balls.

See you on court.
