Welcome to a new term!

Dear Parents

Happy New Year everyone! And a warm welcome to a fresh term to both old hands and new joiners. We want to make playing tennis at Ebbisham an enjoyable experience for your child and hope the following information will give you confidence that we can deliver.

Health & Safety

At Ebbisham we take the safety of all our players very seriously and the club has a range of policies to ensure this. These are available on our website www.ebbisham.mycourts.co.uk if you wish to look at them. In line with our Welfare Policies, we ensure that all our coaches are suitably qualified, police (DBS) checked and have attended safeguarding and first aid courses; and the same goes for our Club Welfare Officers. Should you have any concerns, however small, our tennis welfare officer, Sam Johnson, can be reached in confidence via welfareofficer@ebbishamsportsclub.com .

The club will on occasions seek to take photographic and video images for publicity or coaching purposes, but parents, rest assured we will only do this with your express written permission.

While we do not wish to over-expose your child to the elements, please bear in mind that Callum will continue to coach outside as far as possible, so please ensure that your child arrives suitably dressed for the out-doors. Parents, you are of course welcome to wait in the club lounge while your child is having their lesson. While their siblings keep themselves amused with our selection of games, books and puzzles, why not enjoy a hot drink from our new coffee machine?

Lastly, may we remind you that whenever your children are on club premises, they remain your responsibility except during their specific coaching session. If dropping children off to a coaching session please do so on time and collect promptly at the end. If you are unavoidably delayed in picking up, or someone different from usual is collecting your child, please contact Callum or the club ( 01372 720647 ).

Juniors & Club Membership

Children under eight years old may come to Callum’s classes without joining the club. However, once your child reaches eight and has been attending coaching for at least a term, they are required to join as junior members of Ebbisham Sports Club. If this applies to your child, please contact the office for an application form.

Benefits of junior club membership include: ability to book courts up to 6pm, one club session per week under the supervision of assistant coach Alex Barker, junior competitions, reduced fees for courses and holiday camps.

Once a junior has reached a certain standard and is considered to be sufficiently mature, Callum will invite them to upgrade to advanced junior membership. Advanced juniors may attend adult club sessions, play in adult teams and competitions, in fact enjoy all the same benefits as adult members. There is of course a small additional cost for this. If your child has been invited to upgrade and you would like them to take advantage of this, please speak to one of our office staff.

Young Person’s Welfare Ambassadors

The LTA has recently introduced an innovative new scheme to put young people at the heart of safeguarding in tennis venues across Britain. We are pleased to announce that the club has sponsored two of our older juniors, Ryan and Eloise, to join this scheme. In their role as Young Person’s Welfare Ambassadors, they will not only raise awareness of safeguarding and welfare issues amongst members and players, but also gather feedback from young people, to enable them to have a greater say in safeguarding discussions. Finally, they will provide an important link between our committee and children and young people. Over the coming year they will receive appropriate training from our Welfare Officer Sam Johnson. Of course, given their age the Ambassadors will not be dealing with safeguarding issues themselves.

If you have any questions or think you would like to become more involved in the club, please contact the ladies in the office who will put you in touch with one of us.

With kind regards from the Tennis Committee
