Following on from the e-mail from the Management Committee regarding the increases in subscriptions from 1st Sept this year, I feel it necessary and important to add some further details relating specifically to the increases to the graded session membership categories, of which you are a member.
In addition to the general increase in costs associated with the running of the club, badminton has more specifically been hit with significant increases over the past year in the cost of the shuttles. Since 1st Sept 2022 (i.e. less than a year ago) the price of our shuttles have increased by 20%, with further increases likely to take these increases to 35% or more over the coming year.
These increases are a direct additional cost to the badminton section, so it is with regret that the subscription increases for the membership categories that include the use of shuttles (i.e. the graded sections), have had to be increased proportionately more than the other sports to cover these increased costs.
Alongside the increase in shuttle costs, our shuttle usage (i.e. the number of tubes we use in any period) has also increased, which means that the overall expenditure on shuttles is considerably higher than it was even a year ago.
The badminton committee is looking very carefully into all aspects of our shuttles, including stricter monitoring of shuttle usage and allocation of shuttles during session nights. The use of different shuttles is also being considered , and some sections may be asked to trial alternatives. In the meantime, all members are urged to maximise the use of every shuttle, by treating them with respect, making the best use of them, and ensuring that the shuttle they finish a game with is returned to be used by the next game on court.
